Catherine Ann Keener was born on March 23, 1959 in Miami, Florida. She graduated with a BA degree in English from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. She made her film debut in 1986’s About Last Night…. In the next few years, she has appeared in independent films and gained recognition for her role in 1991’s Johnny Suede.
She then achieved critical acclaim for her portrayal of Maxine Lund in 1999’s Being John Malkovich, for which she earned an Oscar nomination. She has since starred in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Capote, Into the Wild and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, among others.
