Lili Taylor was born on February 20, 1967. After high school, she attended The Theatre School at DePaul University. She continued her acting training at the Piven Theatre Workshop. During her early years, she had roles in the films Mystic Pizza and Born on the Fourth of July. In 1990, her performance in the movie Bright Angel got her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead. She later joined the cast of the feature Short Cuts.
She went on to star in the films Girls Town, I Shot Andy Warhol, A Slipping-Down Life, and The Haunting. In the 2000s, she also became more active on the small screen. She starred in the TV series Deadline and gained fame for her role as Lisa Kimmel Fisher in Six Feet Under. She also starred in the TV show State of Mind. She continued her prolific career in the 2010s, during which she starred in the movies About Cherry, Being Flynn, and The Conjuring, among others. She later starred in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and To the Bone. She also played Lynda Rumancek in Hemlock Grove, Sandra Maldonado in Almost Human, and Nancy Straumberg in American Crime.

In an interview, the actress talked about her stance on plastic surgery. When asked if she’ll consider plastic surgery in the future, she didn’t say no in an outright matter. She said: “It’s tricky to say “never,” but I will never have plastic surgery.” She further explained:
“There’s this great short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne called “The Birthmark.” It’s about a surgeon who removes this woman’s beauty mark, and he destroys a part of her spirit, her soul. It’s the perfect analogy for what we do when we cut into what we’ve got and take it away.” She also went on to express her appreciation of veteran actresses like Diane Keaton who’s chosen to age gracefully.
