Susanna Thompson was born on January 27, 1958 in San Diego, California. She first performed on stage. In 1991, she made her television debut in an episode of Silk Stalkings. She then guest-starred in several TV shows, including Star Trek: The Next Generation and Bodies of Evidence, among others. She also starred in some TV films during this period. Her first movie role was in the low-budget film Slaughter of the Innocents. She later starred in the Fox TV movie Alien Nation: Dark Horizon. This was followed by roles in the feature films When a Man Loves a Woman, Little Giants, and Ghosts of Mississippi. From 1999 to 2000, she played the Borg Queen in Star Trek: Voyager.
She simultaneously became widely recognized for her starring role as Karen Sammler in the television series Once and Again. After this, she had recurring roles as Dr. Kate Ewing in Medical Investigation and Army Lt. Col. Hollis Mann in NCIS. She also played a supporting role in the 2005 feature film The Ballad of Jack and Rose. She went on to star in the movie American Pastime. Thompson then joined the main cast of the short-lived series The Book of Daniel as Judith Webster. Following this, she starred as Queen Rose Benjamin in the NBC series Kings. Between 2012 and 2019, she gained further popularity for her role as Moira Queen in The CW’s Arrow. She also played Carol Preston in NBC’s Timeless.
